During
the last holidays, Sam Flavell and Zane Wilson attended
the Taster course run by Taratahi Agricultural Training
Centre in Masterton. This gives students the opportunity
to experience the programme run by Taratahi and the living
arrangements provided there. A number of our students have
attended Taratahi in the past before moving on in their
farming careers.
AGRICULTURAL
SKILLS DAY
On
29th Apri two teams of students participated in an agricultural
skills day organised by Matamata College. This is part of
the on-going moderation of assessment by schools in our
Cluster group.
Students competed in a number of farm skills events such
as ATV knowledge, fencing, checking livestock, repairing
water supply and identifying weeds, an AB activity and safety
identification.
Wesley Johnstone, Jordan Karauna, Zane Wilson, Tracy Rovers,
Daniel Steed, Regan Bain, Joshua Pennyfather and Hilary
Dahm represented our school ably, combining their strengths
to do well in all activities.
The teamwork, conduct and abilities of our students were
commented on by the judges and organisers during the day.
I was proud to take this group of students to this event.
DAIRYPUSH
FIELDAY
On
April 21st, Charlotte West, Wesley Johntone, Tylah Martin-Simmonds,
Georgia Newton and Hilary Dahm acted as the Support Crew
for the DairyPush Fielday held on the Mathis farm. The students
assisted with parking management, ensured handouts were
distributed to all, registered attendees, cooked the BBQ
and cleaned up afterwards.
They
also were able to listen to the presentation and so gained
an insight into the programme and the business side of farming.
The day was very successful and the organisers were full
of praise for the quiet and organised work these students
did.
