Year 9

Year 9 students have just started a unit of work on Communication. Through out this unit of work students will learn about different types of communication while completing tasks. It is hopped that we will be able to Skype anothe school and be a part of a collabrative project with another school.

Year 10

Year 10 students are just coming to the end of a unit of work on Spreadsheets. During this unit or work students' learnt how to create spreadsheets using different formulae and a range of different graphs using Microsoft Excel.

 

Year 11
Information Management (IMA)

Qualifications

  • NCEA Level 1
  • Credits towards NC in Business Administration and Computing Level 2

Entry Requirement

  • Open
  • No previous experience in computing is necessary

Course Highlights

Students will gain skills:

  • In word processing and spreadsheets
  • For personal use and for other curriculum areas
  • In basic desktop management skills and use of personal computers
  • Computer file management and structures

This course leads directly to:

  • NC Business Administration and Computing (Level 2 & 3)
  • NC Computing (Level 2 & 3)

Year 11 students are working on Unit Standards. The aim of the Year 11 course is for students to learn a range of topics using the Microsoft Office package. The valuable skills that they learn will enable them to be successful in their external exams in November.

 

 

Year 12/13

Business Administration (BUS)

This course will be the first year for many students working towards the NC in Business Administration and Computing (BAC)

Qualifications

  • NC Business Administration and Computing (Level 2 & 3)
  • NC in Educational Achievement (Level 2 & 3)

Entry Requirement

  • Open
  • Previous computing experience is not necessary.

Course Highlights

Students will learn to:

  • Complete unit standards as part of the NC Business Administration and Computing and NC in Computing
  • Utilise Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher as means of communication fro both personal and vocational use
  • Reach a high standard of word processing skills including tables, mail merge, and terminology of office processes.
  • Reach a high standard of desktop publishing skills using Microsoft Publisher.
  • Gain an understanding of basic accounting skills for office procedures, cash journals and business documents.

 

 

Computer Studies (COM)

Qualifications

  • NC in Computing (Level 2 & 3)
  • Credits towards NC of Business Administration and Computing (Level 2 & 3)
  • NCEA (Level 2)

Entry Requirement

  • Open
  • Previous computing experience is not necessary

Course Highlights

  • Students will be able to learn a range of important programme applications eg database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and graphics.
  • Students will work at their own pace through Unit Standards.

 

Webpage Design (WPD)

To deliver this course to students the Information Technology Department has formed a partnership with the National College of Design Technology (NATCOL). The programme introduces a new computer and technology curriculum into the senior school in the areas of multimedia and web design.

The course is a combination of conventional computing and industry accredited unit standards at Level 2 & 3.

Qualifications

  • Credits towards NC Computing Level 2 & 3
  • NCEA Level 2 & 3
  • Pathway to further Tertiary or employment

Entry Requirements

  • NC in Computing Level 2
  • HOD's discretion for those students who show flair and aptitude

Course Highlights

Students will learn to use a selection of techniques that may include:

  • Introduction to Macromedia Suite, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand
  • Digital photography
  • Graphics Applications

Webpage design students this year are learning XHTML and CSS.
