Tena
Koutou Katoa, Kia Orana, Talofa Lava, Greetings.
I
have great pleasure in welcoming past and present students,
staff and Board Members to Forest View High School’s
Alumni pages.
In
1974, the regional superintendent of Education, Mr D H Thurston,
sent a telegram to Forest View’s first assembly. He
asked those present to build a “fine school where friendship,
courtesy and honest endeavour prevail”. Over the last
32 years, members of the Forest View community have taken
these words to heart and put them into action. They are still
a driving force as we move through the next century.
The
first day for Forest View was Wednesday February 13, 1974,
about one year after building contractors had moved onto the
site and after the foundation pupils had enjoyed an extra
long holiday. In its first year, the school had 185 students,
15 teaching staff, (including six part – time) and 6
support staff. In 2006, the school has663
students, 46 teaching staff, (including 5 part – time)
and 26 supporting staff. The number of levels taught, courses
and qualifications offered, sports teams and performing groups
available has continued to grow over the years, as has the
number of buildings and the development of the school grounds.
Despite
still being one of the newest secondary schools in New Zealand,
Forest View already has many ex – students who have
excelled in sporting, academic, cultural and other pursuits
and we always look forward to welcoming them back to speak
to our present students. Many of our present students are
in fact the children of the school’s early pupils.
These
pages list where our Year 13 students went to. They serve
to show the many achievements of Year 13's in terms of employment
and further education, in which they, the staff who taught
them and their parents can take particular pride.
We hope they will
also provide a reminder to the alumni groups of who was in
their year, and encourage them to bring us up to date by contacting
us with information for our Alumni pages.
