At
Year 9 level all students do Music, Dance and Drama
as part of their learning programme. They may then
choose to take these subjects in the following years
if they have an interest and ability in them. CULTURAL
Kapa Haka
group Te Piringatahi Kapa Haka Roopu that performs
at functions and competition events.
Polynesian
Group Polinetia Fa’atasi
that encourages students to develop their awareness
and understanding of Polynesian culture through languages,
arts and recreation activities and who also perform
at festivals in Tokoroa and other centres.
Forest
View supports students who apply to become American
Field Scholars and go abroad to study for a year.
We also host many students from a wide variety of
other countries and cultures.
EXTRA
CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students
can choose from a wide variety of extra curricular
activities to extend their knowledge and ability in
these areas.
PERFORMANCE
Free
instruction in a range of musical instruments as a
part of a student’s learning programme.
Annual
drama and musical productions that includes acting,
dancing and live music regularly involving over 80
students.
Performing
Arts exchange with Dargaville High School. This is
an annual event and students take part in a range
of cultural activities.
The
Stage Band that enters competitions and can perform
for the school.
The
Singing Groups that perform at school functions.
The
Shakespeare Festival competition, an annual event
that the school enters.
The
Smokefree Rockquest that ardent band members have
entered for several years.
The
Subway Stage Challenge that involves a large number
of students in a eight minute stage production with
a message.
FORMAL
SPEAKING PERFORMANCE
Debating
is a strength in the school.
There are
2 senior teams and juniors are encouraged to become
involved and to develop their debating skills.
MOCK
UNITED NATIONS COMPETITION
This is
held annually at the University of Waikato and the
school enters teams and debates issues of international
importance with and against students from many North
Island schools.
