Forest
View has a set of school rules that aim to ensure that a
positive learning environment is maintained and learning
opportunities are seen as a priority. The slogan R.A.P.
encompasses the basic expectations:
that
there will be RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
students
will be AIMING TO ACHIEVE
and
will engage in POSITIVE PARTICIPATION
In
addition there is a School Code of Conduct that sets out
the behaviours that are acceptable and expected when students
are members of the school.
Some of the most important expectations are below:
Be
prepared for work and to work
Attend
school regularly
Allow
others to learn
Wear
the correct uniform
Show
respect to others
Follow
instructions
Do
not use offensive language or behave in an offensive
manner
Complete
all homework that is set
Care
for the school environment and school property
Do
not bring alcohol or drugs to school and do not smoke
while at school
Attendance
The Ministry
of Education is aiming for 94% attendance by students this
year and most of our students are on track for this target.
However, some are not.
Students have a responsibility to get to school on time,
every day and the law makes it clear that parents must ensure
their young people attend. The School is responsible for
tracking attendance and seeking explanations for absences.
Please ensure you phone the school before 9:00 am on the
day your child is absent to explain why your child is away.
Dental appointments and doctors appointments are classed
as ‘attending school’ unless a child is away
all day for an appointment. Ill health and family crises
(serious ill-health, death, fires, floods.) are the only
justified reasons for absences.
You may have noticed articles in the paper recently which
reported that the Government was proposing raising the fines
imposed on parents of non-attending students, to $3000.
We are loath to see any of our parents in that position.
