TEXTS FROM SCHOOL
Please
ensure your child is on time to school and attends Morning
Tutor (starts at 8:40 am).
If your child is going to be absent, please call the school
and give a reason for the absence, by 9:00 am.
We are using a text messaging system to contact parents
of students who are showing as absent in the morning tutor
period. We would appreciate a prompt reply.
The message is computer-generated, based on whether a child
is present at the start of the day, in Tutor.
“ XXXX is not at school. Please either reply with
reason, or text “AT SCHOOL” if you expect XXXX
to be here. Thanks.”

JUNIOR
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The Junior Girls
Volleyball Team have had an awesome term learning the skills
of Volleyball. This young team has been training twice a
week with their sights set on competing at Junior Nationals
in Auckland later this year. Well done to those girls who
were on time, put the net up and down, stood in the way
of volleyballs flying at them! and for being FOCUSED.

BOYS CRICKET
The senior boys
had a great couple of games in this years Gillette Cup beating
Tokoroa High School comprehensively and then suffering a
narrow loss to Trident High School from Whakatane. Trident
play weekly in the Bay of Plenty Mens Competition. We were
able to restrict them to 99 runs which was the first time
that they have scored less than a hundred. Trident have
become the regional champions and now progress to the National
Finals so I am very pleased with how we performed against
them.
The Junior boys fought hard to win narrowly by 11 runs over
Putaruru College and had a comfortable win against Tokoroa
High School. I am grateful for the parental support that
these teams have had. Thank you very much.

SUMMER SPORTS
WIND-UP
Touch
This is a rebuilding year for us with many of last years’
team having left school.
At the Waikato Regional competition in Hamilton on the 14th
we had only 4 of last years’ team available and all
players really had to step up to the challenge.
Kale and Isaac
controlled the mid’s while Chelsea continued in the
top form that she showed playing for the BOP Open Mixed
team at the Nationals the week before. Halena proved to
all that she was ready to play link and was just waiting
for her big sister to leave. The new players quickly adapted
to their new roles and the fast pace of the game and improved
with every game.
Our new young
team had an excellent day and reached the finals and only
lost in overtime in a drop off situation.
This success qualified them to play in the Zone competition
which was held at Linton Park in Rotorua last Saturday,
where the top 3 teams from the Waikato and the top 3 from
the BOP met in an attempt to qualify for the Nationals in
December.
FV’s first game was up against Edgecumbe and the 8
– 6 win wasn’t pretty but shook out the cobwebs
and got the team ready for their game against Taupo-nui-a-tia,
the BOP champions. Good team work by all saw FV win 9 -
7. The semi’s found us up against our old rivals St
Peters who had beaten us in the Waikato Champs. Their team
is a very experienced senior team but our young team took
it to them and finished up with a 4 - 3 win in an excellent
game.
The final was against Taupo again but this time they came
out on top.
It was good
to have Trae and Samone back and well done to our juniors
Anton, Dylan, Jake, Leah and Taina who showed just how much
you can learn in a short time if you are willing to work
hard.
Tennis
Congratulations to Sarah Hemming & Amy Nicholson who
won the Consolation Plate at the Waikato Secondary Schools
Girls Tennis Championship in the Under 15 Doubles Division,
held last Friday at Dey Street in Hamilton.
Despite facing an early exit from the competition, Rylee
McMullen and Bronte Giles played well against their more
experienced opponents.
Swimming
An enthusiastic group of swimmers travelled to Hamilton
on Wednesday to compete at the Waikato Secondary Schools
Swimming Championships.
Congratulations to the Girl’s team who were placed
16 out of 24 teams and the Boys were placed a commendable
12 out of 29 when all points were added up at the end of
the day.
Rugby
All teams have started training and it is important for
all players to attend training. If you are unable to make
it please let your coach know.
Thank you to the following people who will be coaching our
teams and to the staff members attached to each team.
• 1st XV Kim Harris Ian Ferguson / Iwi Bennion
• U16 Kotiau Joseph Lionel Matenga
• U15 Ben Kohath Sally Cribb
• U14 Brian Nicholas Ian Ferguson
• Girls Jay Curtis & Chelsea Alley Latisha Kelly
We still need people to assist our coaches as this is a
huge job for one person to do on their own. If you are able
to help coach or manage one of the teams, please contact
either Ian Ferguson or Iwi Bennion during school hours.
Competition starts for the 1st XV on Saturday April 24th
and all other grades will begin on 1st May. Girls rugby
will start later in May.
