The
Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is an experimental
business programme developed by Enterprise New Zealand Trust.
Secondary schools run this programme at years 12 and/or 13.
for students this is a great opportunity to realise uniqueness,
develop strengths, work together as a team and possibly make
money at the same time. Like any other team event, YES is
about working towards the same goals and taking all the steps
necessary to achieve them. In 2006 over 3,000 students have
taken part in the scheme with businesses producing products
from custom intake pipes for cars to text messaging boards.
Why YES?
The
Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme is both the most
exciting thing to do at school and the best opportunity
to develop a passion into a career. Students setup their
own company, create real products/services implement real
marketing plans, earn real money, pay real tax and earn
real money and keep real profits. This is not just an academic
course but a relevant and exciting journey.
YES Process
and Support
As a
company, students will be expected to elect directors, gain
initial capital, prepare and present a formal business plan,
have a product launch, participate in a trade fair, market
and sell their products and complete a company annual report.
They are even able to market their ideas on-line through
the new E-market.
The
process is supported by a business mentor (coach), teacher,
online community, regional coordinator, National office.
In 2006 a new export component is available and this opens
up the opportunity to link in with National and other International
distribution channels currently being developed.
